I'm looking forward to the next installment on this subject! Hopefully it will deal with the anarchist alternatives to the democratic system.

Well, yes. I think it's going to look different than what we started trying to do, but we're going to try and start some radio-drama type installments -- which we hope to be more engaging than what we've been up to so far.

Hey, thanks for this piece of info for the airwaves. We need more of this kind of information out there. The beauty of what we do is we don't need to go to college and wait for some degree. We just do it. Thanks for your efforts and the good info. I enjoyed it.

direct democracy
Posted By: Unadoer (2007-04-08 08:50:06)

"Any who would give up these principles should also give up the name "anarchist" -- perhaps in favor of "libertarian."

i find such a statement to be a little arrogant.
Is it not true that an anarchist is defined as someone who resist hierarcy and domination? Even if they deem direct democracy a plausible solution?

Are people not suposed to get together and agree (or dissagree for that matter) are people not suposed to be for/against the wide array of possible solutions?

how, then, are we suposed to come together and reach our goals, solve our common problems, without overcrossing the desires of others?

thanks for all the great work, you are big source of inspiration:)

Not a critique of democracy at all
Posted By: veganarchist (2007-10-30 02:20:57)

Actually, your critique is a rejection of majoritarian systems, and not f democracy. Democracy means rule by the people, not rule by the majority. Similarly, your suggestion that "Any who would give up these principles should also give up the name "anarchist" -- perhaps in favor of "libertarian" exhibits a lack of understanding that anarchism simply means "without rulers." Now, it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to understand that when all the people rule together, that no one is a ruler of anyone else. So, the trick of a democratic or anarchist decision-making system is how to work toward consensus without empowering a minority to hijack the process. If you are unwilling or unable to see that the goals of anarchism and democracy are the same, then you may be just clinging to a term because you see it as more romantic or rebellious. In fact, let me piss you off a little more: communism is also the same thing as democracy and anarchism. They are all egalitarian systems of shared rule, non-hierarchical society, and equal justice, simply going by different names because the adherents thereof are focused on different aspects of the ideal.

However, what you seem to be advocating, an inalienable right to follow one's passions without regard for community, is not anarchism. It is just individualism, which inevitably leads to feudalism, or something like it.

This was perfect information for my mind to be mulling at this time when I am being confronted with the accusitory question, "Did you vote?"
I am training myself to speak up and to speak truthfully and passionately about the ideas my heart believes in. I revel in this coherent reminder of the inherent fallacies of the democratic system. Thank you for recording and sharing this and all the other information here.

All titles

I am very interested in narrating an audiobook. I am a grade 12 social studies teacher. The longer I teach, the more I see how my job is to simply keep the status quo and teach people to hurry up and fit in. I risk my career by teaching real critical thinking skills and expose propaganda and indoctrination to my students in the texts that we are forced to study. I have been told my voice suits narration and radio (but not in that phony dj way). So I would love to help this important site out by getting even more of these wonderful writings out there. Please post if you would like any volunteer work. I also have the equipment to do this and some technical know how. Thank you

It says every form of democracy... Ever heard of Rousseau's own conception of the social contract?
Well I like this site a lot, but well IŽd appreciate the texts, which are read to be available for download on this site also.
